Episode 129: Masters of Scale

Harness fear to drive innovation, part 2

While partnering with Dr. Dre to co-found Beats Electronics (Beats by Dre), Jimmy Iovine set his sights on producing more than standard headphones. He wanted music lovers to enjoy impeccable sound quality within a fashionable design. Jimmy and Dr. Dre followed with the launch of the streaming platform Beats Music. Beats Electronics became the catalyst for Jimmy’s introduction to the education space. There, he discovered the need for change when he found that most students knew the arts or technology, but not both.

In the final installment of this two-part series with guest host Angela Ahrendts (Burberry, Apple), we learn about the work that went into Jimmy’s audio and music technology empire and how he helped un-silo education with the creation of the USC Iovine and Young Academy and the Iovine and Young Center.
